Celebrating the Sherman Brothers: A New Main Street Movie at Disneyland
Disneyland Resort is gearing up for its 70th anniversary with a series of exciting new experiences, and one of the highlights is a heartfelt tribute to the legendary Sherman Brothers. The Main Street Cinema will debut a special short film titled "The Last Verse," celebrating the 60th anniversary of the iconic song "It's a Small World".
The Sherman Brothers, Richard M. and Robert B. Sherman, were the brilliant songwriting duo behind some of Disney's most beloved music, including classics like "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" from Mary Poppins and "The Tiki, Tiki, Tiki Room" from Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room. Their contributions have left an indelible mark on Disney's legacy and global culture.
"The Last Verse" features a newly revealed verse of "It's a Small World," written by Richard M. Sherman in what would become his final Disney contribution. The film beautifully illustrates the song's journey as it is passed from person to person and generation to generation, reinforcing the message of unity and hope. The third and final verse will also be incorporated into the It's a Small World attraction at Disneyland, along with a new projection show on the facade of the ride.
This tribute is part of a broader celebration of Disneyland's history and innovation. The Main Street Opera House will receive a transformative update, featuring new gallery experiences that showcase the evolution of Walt Disney's dream of Disneyland. Visitors will have the opportunity to see rare images, concept art, and artifacts that trace the park's journey from its earliest stages to the present day.
Additionally, the exhibit will highlight the groundbreaking Audio-Animatronics technology pioneered by Walt Disney himself, offering guests a glimpse into the inner workings of these lifelike figures. For the first time, original items from Walt Disney's private apartment above the Main Street Fire Station will be exhibited, including his rocking chair, lamp, and table.
The Main Street Cinema's tribute to the Sherman Brothers is a touching reminder of the profound impact they had on Disney's musical legacy. As Disneyland celebrates its 70th anniversary, guests will have the chance to experience the magic and nostalgia of the Sherman Brothers' timeless contributions.
